The first client for this company was the German branch of Imperial Chemical Industries.They used to develop payroll and accounting programs instead of using punch cards.
The first commercial product of SAP was SAP R/98.The product used the centralized data storage and this improved the maintenance of data.In 1976,SAP moved its headquarters to Walldorf,Germany,SAP official known as SAP AG.

They developed system called R1-Real time data processing.
R1 system is developed for ICI Chemical and released in 1972,focused on Sales & Distribution and Material Management and it is discontinued after release of R2 system.
Then after 3 years,R2 is launched with centralized database at single location,it is recognized as a leading mainframe for large multinational corporations,used to replace legacy software and handled many different languages and currencies.
Then in 1992, SAP came up with R3 system release,is the former name of enterprise resource planning produced by SAP AG,it manages all financial,asset and cost accounting and production operations etc.,this system runs on many platforms and using client/server model,the latest version of R3 includes internet enabled-package.
SAP has recently recast its product offerings under a comprehensive Web interface, called mySAP.com, and added new e-business applications, including customer relationship management (CRM) and supply chain management (SCM).
SAP is turning its attention to small- and-medium sized businesses (SMB). A recent R/3 version was provided for IBM's AS/400 platform.
